Willy Wonka an Original Innovator?

In last week’spost, we talked about who inspires you to reach for the stars, encourages you to challenge conventional thinking and pushes you to attempting something daring?

Recently, I’ve introduced my six year old to the 1971 classic movie, Charlie and the Chocolate  Factory.  (From Wikipedia..)The story features the adventures of young Charlie Bucket inside the chocolate factory of eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka. The factory is full of strange and fantastical rooms, including a chocolate-mixing room that looks like a huge garden, where everything is made of candy and there is a chocolate lake in the middle, a research and development room with dozens of complex machines designing new forms of candy, a nut-sorting room with an army of trained squirrels that sort the good nuts from the bad, and a TV studio-like room with a giant "Wonkavision" camera, which can teleport giant bars of chocolate into people's homes through their television. The factory is staffed by small, pygmy-like men called Oompa-Loompas.

The movie captures the spirit of a thriving business man who is passionate about making the world’s best product. Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) delivers a simple message to his young guests encouraging them to pursue their dreams:

If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it. You'll want to change the world. There's nothing to it. There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination. Living there, you'll be free, if you truly wish to be.

This week, Apple announced  a series of initiatives designed to modernize learning based around its iPad tablet. The end goal is to create a “etextbook” experience and change the way we interact, learn and read.  While there are clearly early adopters to mlearning and technology adoption in our schools –there is still a great deal of work to build compelling mobile apps for K-12 and Higher Education to support this.

Do you have a transformational idea that could help automate a process and improve our education system?

Should education apps be free?

As a developer what top three platforms are you developing on?

Are you considering the RIM playbook as an option for your deployment?

In the meantime, I am seeking to find a app that will turn off the Oompa-Loompa song in my head – any suggestions?

Cheers,
Shawn
